Welcome to the beta test of debatemebro.gg!
This site is a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and aims to find ways of improving the quality of online debates. Feel free to share ideas on how this site may be able to best facilitate this and upvote in this thread other new features that you think would be great to see!
There should always be evolving debates in our society, and this site can serve as a repository and communication forum for that; a place to hash it out while we all figure it out.
The goal in these debates should be to figure things out, rather than necessarily win the argument. The point is to get to the bottom of an issue so we don’t have to keep arguing about it anymore.
The ideal end result from doing this across many debates would be for this site to be a quick reference place for people to check what the best arguments for both sides of any given topic are.
The best arguments on a topic (no matter the side) should be upvoted to the top of every debate post, so it’s clear to anyone wanting to get to the bottom of an issue quickly (rather than wasting time wading through threads of weak arguments and misinformation propagated through the internet).
Anyways, those are my core intentions of what this site could be useful for. For anyone who wants to be involved in its co-creation, what do you think would be valuable to build? Whether that’s ideas/feature wise, general direction of the site, meta-discussions on moderation policy, or whatever else…
Feel free to share it all here! <3
AYO it would be nice if your profile pics actually loaded on the post, learn to code nerd.
But yeah that’s some annoying bug I gotta figure out , feel free to report bugs in the form of roasts either in this thread or thru the feedback form down below.
Wow he’s talking to himself, dude’s kinda psychotic, no?
Is arguing with yourself not a bad way too figure things out?
But yes, that’s why we need more people posting in here, so it’s not only me having conversations with myself and getting into arguments. Shouts out Mac Miller, first hyperlink test goes to you! RIP
Eyy fixed the profile pic loading bug
The website is a good idea but it didn’t let me register my name as sir truth. So work is yet to be done.
Looks like a good concept! Definitely a lot of work to be done though. One suggestion I have is finding a framework to give a “snapshot” of debates. I recently found a video where a dude used a framework to evaluate arguments from gifters: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6g_9xZNdRI&t=217s .
The “argument review map” in the video was designed for “uncovering deception” I.E. bad faith arguments, but I think parts of it can be adapted to debate in general to help participants present clear arguments, reduce misunderstanding from their opponents, and undermine the use of debate tactics/logical fallacies (since it can clearly be pointed to).
Thanks for the idea and for checking out the site! I’ve checked out the video you sent and I like that format for evaluating debates.
It’s a great idea of having these “Debate Maps” as a “Debate Evaluation” page/module, linked to debates (either internal to the site, or external eg. youtube video). I’ve wanted an evaluation mechanism, and this could be the way to do it.
Thanks again!
